Greetings Dennison Families,

Three full weeks back at school and your children are working hard in many ways.  Friendships are growing, new students have been welcomed, and effort is being put into learning.  When I ask students, "What is the best part of your year so far?", I hear, "Seeing my friends, my new teacher, recess, math, reading, PE......" and I know they are successfully off and running for a new year.  Your greetings and words of encouragement to all staff in the hallways and parking lot mean so much and model appreciation as a valued character trait for your children.

Appreciation is highly valued and desired by all humans.  We continue to encourage all of our community to stop and find something they can appreciate.  More importantly is telling someone something very specific you appreciate about them.  Research has proven that it takes five positive comments to outweigh the effects of one negative comment.  How powerful it is to develop the habit and culture of appreciation.

So as this year unfolds I want you to hear that I appreciate your children.  They bring magic, hope, smiles, and sparkle to our days.  I appreciate you as parents and guardians that encourage and support your children and us as a staff.  Teachers and staff, your dedication to "growing" children is commendable.  You work selflessly every day to help your students reach their potential.

I appreciate the opportunity to share in and partner with all of you in the Dennison experience.

Make it a habit to tell people thank you. To express your appreciation, sincerely and without the expectation of anything in return. Truly appreciate those around you, and you'll soon find many others around you. Truly appreciate life, and you'll find that you have more of it. Ralph Marston
